Born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a son of a Sumatran diplomat and Yogyanese princess. Jaya spent his childhood traveling with his parents, as well as residing in the house of his maternal grandmother where he absorbed the Javanese culture. As a young man, Jaya attended university in England where a series of pivotal events connected him to Interior Design. Early in the 1990’s, Jaya returned to Indonesia where he established a design studio that flourished from the beginning.
In 2005, Jaya Ibrahim has founded with a businessman Bruce Goldstein and as a principal now directs all design activities. It is his eye, his vision and rigorous dedication to the work that has attracted prestigious clients and projects that stretch from Singapore to China, Europe and the U.S. Maintaining a personal involvement with every client’s interests, Jaya takes on those projects that offer the freedom to carry a concept through from space planning and design to furniture, artwork and the smallest details of decor.
Jaya International Design has its offices in Singapore, Jakarta, New York and Shanghai, with a global presence through properties like Aman at Summer Palace, Beijing; The Capella; Park Hyatt, Changbaishan; the Setai in Miami and Shiatzy Chen boutiques in Paris and across Asia.
Jaya’s work has also drawn praise from clients, guests and the media, including Conde Nast Traveler, Architectural Digest and Travel + Leisure. When asked to describe his work, Jaya notes that everything can be traced back to historic roots, “They are contemporary designs, but with a pedigree.”
