The story of Roche Bobois begun in Paris in 1950, when Jacques Roches purchased the old Alexandre Dumas theater on rue de Lyon and built two stores. When his two sons, Philippe and François joined the business they decided to develop the company and start distributing the very best contemporary furniture. At the same time second family, the Chouchans, were selling furniture in Paris on Boulevard Sébastopol, at “Au Beau Bois” – which later became Bobois.

In 1960 members of both families, Roche and Chouchan, met for the first time while visiting an expo in Copenhagen with an idea of importing little-known Scandinavian furniture to Paris. Shortly after their first joint catalogue was launched, followed by first national advertising campaign in 1961. Booming sales proved that combining the names and resources of two families worked perfectly. That is when the Roche Bobois brand and new company identity came to life.
Today, with over 250 stores in 45 countries, the Roche Bobois Group is considered the world leader of high end furniture design and distribution. The brand launches new collection every six months and approximately every month a new Roche Bobois store opens its door to the public.
