Miles Redd started his interior design career after graduating from New York University where he studied film. In an amazing he describes his journey towards decorating:
I always had the creative knack and I think a lot of people do. The trick is finding the medium that works well with your talents. I went to Parsons and took a stab at fashion design, but it moved too quickly. I tried filmmaking after getting my film degree from NYU, but it involved too many people, could be technically difficult, and was very expensive. I finally realized I had always been that kid who pushed furniture around the room and rehung the posters, so then I turned to decorating, and thought perhaps it would be easy. I learned two big lessons: one, decorating is not easy, and two, to pursue the things that come most naturally. I am still continually influenced by all creative types—artists, fashion designers, and other decorators, past and present. I believe in borrowing from many to create your own.
He later polished his natural talent for interior design working with luminary antiques dealer John Rosselli and a famous decorator Bunny Williams. In 1998, he opened his own interior design firm in New York City’s NoHo neighborhood. His work has been featured in Vogue, W, House Beautiful, Elle Décor, Veranda, and Architectural Digest.
His signature style is a quirky and cozy glamour. His unique aesthetic vision is characterized by playful mélanges of high and low, invigorated with whimsical splashes of color and modern gestures.
I do think everyone has a signature, and mine is saturated color, 18th –century furniture often painted chalky white, contemporary art, and a sort of tension in disparate objects.

His marvelous designs have a really strong connection with the fashion world, drawing on inspirations ranging from Richard Avedon fashion photographs to Rene Gruau illustrations. It is not surprising since the designer spent 10 years as a creative director of Oscar de la Renta Home.
